REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2020
Dear friends, Today we observe Remembrance Sunday and it is a very special and significant day as we gratefully remember the fallen of the first and the second world wars and subsequent wars. We with a grateful heart honour the heroic service and sacrifice of our Armed forces community, the British and Commonwealth veterans and the Allies that fought alongside us and all the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
While we remember these heroes we salute their bravery, their conviction and their sacrifice which altered the course of the world. Their lives paved the way for peace of the world and we now live a life of freedom because they sacrificed their lives. They did not think about their safety or life, they did not even think about their families but they cared for our nation and the nations of the world and gave their lives fighting that the world will be a better place.
At the present moment the whole world seem to be at war with the deadliest of enemies, the Corona Virus. Scientists, Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are the present day soldiers combating the virus and doing their best to save lives. In this war all of us have a part to combat this dreadful enemy by protecting ourselves by following the government guidelines and we also have to take every care to protect other people.
We today ask God to give us the strength and courage to seek to serve the well being of our society and the world. We look up to our war heroes and we seek to live with a spirit of sacrifice that we will strive towards a world free of violence, oppression and disease that all people may live.
Let me conclude by the words of commemoration:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. Amen
