TENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Gospel: John 6: 35, 41-51
I greet you all in the powerful name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Jesus said “I am the bread of life this is indeed the way of my father that all who see the Sun and believe in him may have eternal life and I will raise them up on the last day.”
St. John’s Gospel helps us to understand the personality of Jesus as Son of God in the great I am sayings. These sayings helps us to understand Jesus and enable us to believe in Jesus and to receive him as our Lord.
When Jesus said I am the Bread of life the crowd following Jesus, seeking Jesus were not able to understand Jesus’ words. The people around Jesus only see Jesus as a person from Nazareth and that his parents were Mary and Joseph and they also knew his sisters and brothers. They were not able to understand that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah, the anointed one from God who has come down from heaven to transform the lives of people.
Jesus is the bread that gives life and it is the source of eternal life. Jesus said the one who believes and eats the bread from heaven will be raised on the last day. Jesus comes to us all the time, we feed on him, his love, his words, his body in the Blessed Sacrament.
Jesus as the life giving food satisfies our soul that one is never again desperate for anything. Jesus provides the sufficiency for life.
May the triune God, the true bread of life, the body and blood of Christ help us to see God as we love and serve one another, keep our hearts and minds in true knowledge and love of God.
As we partake in the Eucharist may God grant us peace that passes all understanding and live in love and peace with all. Amen
