St Edward’s took part in  New Addington People’s day again this year.  Despite very wet rain, the Sunday morning worship – so well organised by Matt and Emma from the Salvation Army – lifted our spirits and was a joyful occasion.  Jonathan our Priest was very pleased to be asked to do a Bible reflection in the worship and used the story of that well known fishy picnic – The Feeding of the 5000 as his reading.  The story reminds us that as adults we often close in ourselves and are fearful of sharing what we have with others.  In the story it took an innocent child to offer Jesus his bread and fish and with it, Jesus fed a multitude.  We need to overcome those adult characteristics of fear, greed and pride in our community to share all we have to help each other.  In the absence of any fish sandwiches, Jonathan “shared” sweets with the worshippers at the end of his talk… and was hauled into join the fantastic Salvation Army Community Choir for the last song.
